Durham Market Hall is vibrant and busy – a must-visit experience in the heart of Durham. Come discover this traditional Market Hall … ‘just as they should be’ (Tripadvisor review) … housed in a beautifully-restored Victorian Market Hall.
It’s home to 45 businesses giving shoppers all the variety of a department store, staffed by knowledgeable independent traders; a place to stop, shop and enjoy.
Discover fine foods, and hand-selected wines. You’ll find fashion and accessories, home décor and hardware, toys, collectables, and hobby supplies, as well as several useful services. Come in for take-away food or enjoy Café Cenno, with its impressive view over the Market Hall, and free wifi.
On Saturdays, up to 30 more stalls come into the Market Place, and on the third Thursday of each month the Farmers’ and Producers’ market arrives. The monthly Full Moon Street Food Market is also popular. For times and dates, as well as details of other markets and events, see www.durhammarkets.co.uk .
The highlight of the retail year is Durham Christmas Festival with markets on Palace Green, in Durham Cathedral Cloisters, the Market Place and the Market Hall. This year’s festival takes place from Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December.
To make the most of a visit to Durham, find the city’s ‘signposters’, the Pointers, in the Market Place in their bright pink tabbards. They’re there to help daily from May to September and will also meet coach parties. To pre-book a free coach meet and greet, email info@durhampointers.co.uk.
