Chesterfield

Chesterfield is currently undergoing a multi-million pound regeneration that will transform the look, feel and flow of the town centre.

Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield includes work to refurbish the iconic Stephenson Memorial Hall, home to Chesterfield Museum and the Pomegranate Theatre, but will also see the historic market place being revamped with an easier to navigate layout, new canopies and more space for events, festivals and cultural celebrations.

The enhanced market area will include new planting, modern facilities, complimentary lighting and the historic cobbles will be refurbished making it easier for all visitors to navigate the square. The town's historic Town Pump will be turned into a unique feature.

Throughout the regeneration work Chesterfield Markets will be open as usual with friendly market traders happy to serve you and help you find that perfect, quirky gift, some tasty, fresh food for tea or perhaps even a priceless antique!

General markets are held every Monday, Friday and Saturday and have been trading for over 800 years. A programme of speciality markets runs throughout the year including a weekly Thursday Flea market full of hidden treasures, monthly Artisan Market packed with artisan crafts and
culinary delights, Vegan Market, Independent Makers and Craft Market and Record Fair.

Chesterfield also boasts a grade II listed Market Hall which is home to some of the finest independent shops in the area selling everything from craft supplies to luxury clothing.

Events take place throughout the year including an annual 1940s Market and Christmas Lights Switch On. For information on all events happening in Chesterfield see www.visitchesterfield.info/events

A trip to Chesterfield wouldn't be complete without visiting the iconic 'Crooked Spire Church' to discover its history and the many legends that surround it. Trips up the tower are also available on selected days.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: "Chesterfield has a bright future ahead of it and the work we are undertaking builds on our
proud history and heritage. Once works are complete it will cement our place as a top visitor
destination.
