Oxfordshire / Thame
Settled in between Aylesbury and Oxford you will find Thame, the award-winning market town. With a rich history, going as far back as the Anglo Saxons, the town is a wonderful place for culture, community, and adventure. Thame was granted a market charter in 1215, and a market has been held every Tuesday since, even throughout lockdown (guidelines insured of course!)
Whilst walking through the market, you will be met with a warm welcome from the friendly stall holders, with an array of items such as fresh produce, textiles, homeware, and plants. Not forgetting, if you come to Thame on the second Tuesday of each month, the charter market is joined by Thame's local produce market, providing the people of Thame and beyond a lovely selection of produce grown and made within a 50-mile radius of Thame.
Once you are full of the delights of the market, you could explore one of Thame's walking routes which are based on the history of the town, and the links to the TV show Midsomer Murders (paid tours are also available). The Charter Market's favourite Tuesday of the year is their Community Fun Day, which this year falls on the Tuesday 22nd August 2023. Each year the Charter Market raises funds and promotes charities and organisations that serve Thame, through a day of fun activities for kids and adults alike!
Thame has been twinned with the French town Montesson since 2001, which the town is reminded of in October when the French Market sets up by the Town Hall, with a wide offering of French crafts, hot food, beauty products and more.
The town is often hosting various events throughout the year which encom-passes Thame's love for sports, art, and literature. As you can see, a Tuesday in Thame is far from its namesake.
